This Boing Boing post where Chewbacca gropes Leia reminds me of one of the things which bugs me about aliens in some scifi:

Why would little green or grey men / wookies / reptilian warlords / multi-ton slugforms want human women? I would think that our women would be too small, soft, pink, and hairless for any of the above—and I'd assume the scent would be all off, not to mention the arrangement of orifices. And yet, it seems like scifi is rife with aliens who just can't get enough, embodying caricatures of the human id.

But, I just wouldn't think that human females would set off any alien sexual response, since I'd imagine that response would have evolved to encourage reproduction with their own kind. Unless, of course, these aliens fall into categories of sexual deviancy in their own societies—analogous to our dendrophiliacs, perhaps.

  • This post reminds me of Brodie in "Mall Rats" when he would keep going on about the reproductive proclivities of different superheros and what would happen if, say, Superman and Wonder Woman ever actually had sex. Just thought you'd want that pointed out ;)

  • jperkins: Actually, I'll take that as a compliment :)

Also: Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex is always a classic.

  • Ha! What a great link!

  • M/A/R/R/S needs women!!

  • Nick: Precisely! :)

  • analogous to our dendrophiliacs, perhaps.

    More like furries. (*shudder*)

  • This has been addressed a bit "in the literature" as it were. Though I don't have an explicit citation.

But, really, whom else would you expect to find in a 1st contact situations?

  • kellan: Huh, that's a good point. I guess alien first contact vessels would be a bit self-selecting for human-otaku.

  • I agree with the point your trying to make. As a self-confessed Star Wars dweeb, I've read alot of extended universe and some writers have good explanations. For instance, Jabba the Hutt is a sexual deviant in his culture, and is really frowned upon. In fact Hutts are asexual and become "female" after they have a baby. Jabba was a real freak who made a point to avoid that, but he's considered young. Ive never read about a Wookie who liked human women though. Everyone seems to like Twi'leks though.

It's sad that I know that much about sexuality in a fictional universe.
