The main event has been the slow, tense, and ultimately successful integration of our new cat, Minnaloushe, who graduated from \"cat jail\" to a tentative peace with the other furballs. In between managing the cat drama, I got a memorial tattoo for Puck, poured a ton of work into <code>decafclaw</code> and other side projects, and fell down a rabbit hole of game streaming and retro classics.</p>\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<nav role=\"navigation\" class=\"table-of-contents\"></nav>\n\n<h2 id=\"the-great-cat-parole-experiment\">The Great Cat Parole Experiment</h2>\n<p>When we last spoke, Minnaloushe was in \"cat jail\" in my office. Well, the big guy has been on a real journey. After a scuffle that put him back in solitary, he's slowly been earning his freedom. There have been many cycles of <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116927359759625182\">parole</a>, supervised visits, and a lot of just hoping for the best.</p>\n<p>The good news is, we seem to have turned a corner. The <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116987667455406680\">cat jail gate has been retired</a>, and we're now at a stage of <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116964131757513851\">uneasy but peaceful coexistence</a>. They're even <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116958707523053532\">eating together</a> without any bloodshed. It's a relief, honestly.</p>\n<p>Of course, a free-roaming Minnaloushe means a new level of chaos. He's a menace who <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116904309856365813\">chews on arcade sticks</a>, <a href=\"https://masto.hackers.town/@lmorchard/116922136763770313\">steals the rubber feet off my laptop stand</a>, and generally causes adorable trouble. But he's also a big, goofy bear of a cat and I'm glad to have him out and about now.</p>\n<image-gallery>\n\n<p><img src=\"5eb6bf4ebb23.jpg\" alt=\"A black cat plays with the controls of a miniature arcade game cabinet featuring a Mozilla logo.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n<p><img src=\"b2eaba63a261.jpg\" alt=\"A black cat sleeps stretched out across a cluttered desk filled with computer monitors, a retro keyboard, and gaming accessories.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n<p><img src=\"4a1afb3404a1.jpg\" alt=\"Two cats, one white and one black, eat dry food from bowls on a white tray on a polished wooden floor.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n<p><img src=\"3cf1563e4062.jpg\" alt=\"Three cats—white, grey, and black—are eating from bowls on a wooden floor next to a brick wall and wooden cabinet.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n</image-gallery>\n\n<h2 id=\"a-tattoo-for-puck\">A Tattoo for Puck</h2>\n<p>In the midst of all the cat drama, I got my second tattoo, a memorial for my old friend Puck, who <a href=\"https://blog.lmorchard.com/2015/04/15/goodbye-puck/\">we lost back in 2015</a>. It was done by <a href=\"https://www.wonderlandpdx.com/katy-bisby-1\">the talented Katy Bisby</a>, and it came out beautifully. It’s a wonderful way to remember a very good boy.</p>\n<image-gallery>\n\n<p><img src=\"87b43a27767a.jpg\" alt=\"A fresh, colorful tattoo of a tabby cat with a crescent moon, stars, and white flowers on a person's arm.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n<p><img src=\"a49e04918b9f.jpg\" alt=\"A colorful tattoo on an arm featuring a cat with green eyes, a crescent moon, stars, and white flowers.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n</image-gallery>\n\n<h2 id=\"shipping-shipping-shipping\">Shipping, Shipping, Shipping</h2>\n<p>At some point, I should probably write more about workaday projects. I'm pretty quiet about those. But, it's been a productive few weeks on side projects: I've been banging away on <a href=\"https://github.com/lmorchard/decafclaw\"><code>decafclaw</code></a>, my personal agent project, and <a href=\"https://github.com/lmorchard/byom-sync\"><code>byom-sync</code></a>, the \"bring your own music\" playlist tool. The GitHub activity stream has been a blur of commits, PRs, and new issues.</p>\n<p>For <code>decafclaw</code>, there's been a ton of work on improving the scheduling system, fixing bugs in the vault and skill loaders, and generally trying to make the whole system more robust. I even started to tackle the project skill's tendency to hallucinate tools.</p>\n<p>For <code>byom-sync</code>, I've been focused on improving purchase link resolution, adding support for RSS feeds, and starting to spec out a \"shopping list\" feature.\nIt's been a lot, but it's satisfying to see these projects moving forward.</p>\n<h2 id=\"adventures-in-game-streaming\">Adventures in Game Streaming</h2>\n<p>I finally caved and tried out GeForce NOW, and I have to say, it's pretty impressive. It's led me to rethink my whole <a href=\"/2017/01/09/diy-monitor-v12/\">living room gaming setup</a>, a project that's been evolving for <a href=\"/2013/01/21/gaming-from-the-orchard-house-couch/\">nearly a decade</a>. The idea of a powerful PC tucked away in the basement, streaming games to any screen in the house via <a href=\"https://moonlight-stream.org/\">Moonlight</a> and <a href=\"https://github.com/LizardByte/Sunshine\">Sunshine</a>, is very appealing. </p>\n<image-gallery>\n\n<p><img src=\"0876bd9a6419.jpg\" alt=\"A bare leg in foreground, with a video game 'Pause Menu' on one screen and a blog on a laptop on another stand.\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n<p><img src=\"7ac5851ae51c.jpg\" alt=\"A compact mobile computing setup with a laptop\" width=\"\" height=\"\"></p>\n</image-gallery>\n\n<p>For those not familiar, Sunshine is a self-hosted, open-source replacement for NVIDIA's now-defunct GameStream, and Moonlight is the open-source client that lets you stream from it.
